Chiang Mai Lanterns Lighting My Way

In respect and memory of the king of Thailand who passed away today:

I've told this story a number of times, and it's one of my favorites. Before this moment, my only exposure to floating lanterns was the Disney movie, "Tangled," and never really placed any more thought to their existence outside of fantasy.

I had been sitting in a pool with a friend on New Years Eve in Chiang Mai, Thailand when we looked up and saw what we thought was a drone. Which was a weird sight to be sure, but not totally out of the ordinary. We showered up and got ready to meet the rest of our party at their hotel across the bridge. And when I walked outside, I looked to my left and saw THIS.

I thought that I was dreaming, and that what I was seeing was impossible. I made wishes later that night on these lanterns and reveled in the fact that I was making the impossible, possible. Such a wonderful moment in my life, and I am so thankful for it ☺️
