Day 8 - United Kingdom: Of Trains and Time Off

For the most part, today was intentionally uneventful. Being the longest journey that I have had so far by rail, it was an excellent opportunity to catch up on these write-ups and to enjoy the scenery. The train took me from Cardiff to York by way of Manchester Piccadilly, and I can thank the ticket office by helping me find the cheapest route there (I still much rather prefer speaking with someone over using a ticket machine).

I arrived in York in the afternoon, and after a short walk along the riverside from the station (which was quite large) I arrived at the hostel I was staying. This was my laundry stop, as I hadn’t had a chance to take care of it yet during my stay.

I ordered an elderflower drink that I have been eyeing at different places on the road. It tasted like a very pungent sprite. Interesting, and I likely won’t order it again. I also ordered a pizza at the hostel, which was significantly better than expected. The rest of the night was very peaceful, and a welcome break from the pace that I had been setting for myself.

Hoping to reach Yorkminster and the Jorvik Viking Center during my stay.
